There is a common perception among many athletes, coaches, and even some sport psychologists that anxiety is a "bad" state, and should be reduced at all costs. Sport psychologists would traditionally most likely begin with teaching an anxious athlete relaxation and deep breathing skills. In my practice, I have found another approach also to be beneficial. Research has found that it is usually the person's perception of their high arousal that may influence performance, not the high arousal itself. If the athlete believes they are anxious, and believe that this anxiety may affect their performance, usually the anxiety increases.

Get Heavy
Maybe you aren't seeing the results you want because your weights are too light. One way to check is to just start lifting. If you are able to do two sets of 12 reps, you need to go up a few pounds. Try a weight that is five pounds heavier. If you can still do two sets of 12 reps, keep adding weight until you can just do two sets of 10 reps.
Don't Get Complacent
After a while, that heavier weight is going to be too light, as well.
